The Black Ops 4 Reveal Was the Most Watched in Franchise History

Black Ops Is Still the Most Anticipated Call of Duty

Last week, Treyarch debuted their new take on a beloved franchise with Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. We’re getting a robust zombie experience with story elements and a new battle royale mode. Not to mention we’ll see tweaks to multiplayer that make for more tactical gameplay. Still, some fans might stay disappointed by the lack of a campaign.

Subtracting the campaign experience is liable to lose some previous Call of Duty die-hards, but the upcoming changes may not have stifled global enthusiasm. According to Activision, the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 reveal witnessed “a record-setting debut” for the franchise. The outpour of spectators exceeded 80 million viewers across livestream platforms, and it’s no surprise the game became the no.1 trending topic on Twitter. Which means, the attention Treyarch garners with this particular series may power past decisions that painted them in a negative light.

“The excitement for Black Ops 4 from fans all over the world has been amazing. It’s an extraordinary bond our community has with this series and we’re incredibly thankful for their support,” said Rob Kostich, EVP and GM, Call of Duty. “The Black Ops 4 reveal trended #1 globally on Twitter, it broke franchise records for the most watched reveal in our history, and content from our community reveal event has already been viewed over 80 million times. Initial pre-orders are also strong through week one of reveal, and above last year.”

Call of Duty arrives for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on October 12. Anyone who pre-orders their copy will gain access to the private beta. Obviously, from the viewership of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s reveal, this may be a more anticipated release than Call of Duty: WWII. While the lack of a campaign is a bold change, the multiplayer portion may still be a driving force for fans new and old. Time will tell quite the tale when the game reaches the market.

Happy gaming.
