The Narcos Story Will Be Told Through Video Games
Publisher Curve Digital has signed a deal with Garmount, the producer of Narcos, to crate a video game adaptation based on the Netflix show. It is set for release next year on “PC and consoles.”
International video game developer Kuju, Curve Digital’s sister company, will be developing the title.
“We’re looking forward to creating a game that matches the fantastic storyline and gritty action of the Netflix series,” said Brynley Gibson, the studio’s head. “We’re tremendously excited and have some amazing gameplay elements in the works that will please both fans of the show and gamers.”
The developer’s other notable games include Guitar Hero Live, Silent Hill: Downpour, and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 1 and 2.
“Narcos is a fantastic license for us to work with,” said Curve Digital MD Jason Perkins. “This critically acclaimed show from Gaumont lends itself perfectly to a video game execution and we’re excited and proud to be bringing this to market.”
“Curve Digital is a world leading video game publisher and we trust them to develop and create our first Narcos console game title that will thrill our millions of Narcos fans, allowing them to engage with the storylines and characters they have come to know over the past three seasons,” said Tim Stephen, Head of Legal and Business Affairs at Gaumont.
Narcos currently has three seasons out on Netflix, and has been renewed for a fourth. It focuses on drug kingpins in the 1980s and the law enforcement agencies that fought to bring them down. The fourth season in particular will focus on Mexico’s infamous Juarez cartel.
Back in September of last year, location scout Carlos Muñoz Portal was killed in central Mexico, which created uncertainty around the show’s shooting location.
The Narcos game is set to release on PC and consoles in the spring of 2019.
