Nostalgia Runs Deep in Blazing Chrome, Spiritual Successor to Contra
These days, you will occasionally come across the action-packed 2-D game that will get its hooks into you. From publisher Dotemu comes a game that may do just that. Presenting Blazing Chrome by Joymashers, a game that takes after the style of Metal Slug and Contra. Like other fantastic 2-D games in this generation, you don’t need endless quarters for a constant dose of adrenaline.
In the world of Blazing Chrome, militant AI-fueled computers rule the Earth while humans are expendable, lacking power, prestige or status among their machine overlords. Choose to play as Mavra, a super badass human resistance soldier, or Doyle, the equally groovy and deadly insurgent robot. When a small group of rebels decide to overthrow their oppressors, it results in heavy casualties and a ton of lock-and-load fast-paced action where scrapping robots and blazing chrome with your powerful weapons is the only thing standing between you and your freedom.
Blazing Chrome is the very first in a series of titles spawned by Dotemu’s new gaming division. The Arcade Crew, as the new division is called, will focus on publishing new titles from smaller indie teams. Hence, we’ll witness more indie gems going forward. “The Arcade Crew capitalizes on an existing framework of development and production within Dotemu but retains a different strategy of focusing on producing and publishing new games, whereas Dotemu will retain its core strategy of reviving loved and known franchises from the past,” CEO Cyrille Imbert revealed in a press release.
Meanwhile, Dotemu will continue to revive old, riveting franchises that have come to define games as we know them. While we wait for those, Blazing Chrome will be available in the Play area of the Game Developer’s Conference (GDC) in San Francisco, Wednesday through Friday. For news on GDC, stay tuned from March 19 to March 23.
