New ‘Ghostbusters World’ Augmented Reality Game Announced

Ghostbusters World Will Launch Later This Year for iOS and Android

Don’t be afraid, but a new Ghostbusters game centred around augmented reality, or AR, has been announced for iOS and Android. It’s called Ghostbusters World, and it looks a lot like Pokemon Go.

Ghostbusters World, which features the latest in AR technology, will let players “battle and catch hundreds of ghosts from all dimensions of the franchise, including the films, TV shows, comic books, theme parks, and video games.” There will also be new ghosts created exclusively for the game. Players are expected to head outside to catch and collect “specters, ghosts, and apparitions” in skill-based gameplay.

The game appears to be a giant collaboration between game developer NextAge and publishing partners Sony Pictures Entertainment, Ghost Corps and FourThirtyThree Inc. (4:33).

“We are thrilled to work with Sony Pictures Entertainment and Ghost Corps to bring the iconic Ghostbusters franchise to life,” said Sung-Jin Han, CEO of 4:33. “Fans will have the opportunity to take a walk through an immersive game environment that merges our everyday world with the many ghosts from the Ghostbusters Universe. It’s an unparalleled experience!”
