As you are no doubt aware, Pokemon is huge these days. While the world just got over the Pokemon Go craze recently, Nintendo now says (via The Verge) that the recently released Pokémon Sun and Moon are the fastest-selling games in the company’s history in both Europe and North America.
Apparently, the 3DS games sold 3.7 million units together since they launched on November 18th. Sun and Moon sold 1.5 million units in Europe during their first week of release, including 368,000 in the UK; and in Japan, meanwhile, the games sold 1.9 million units. The Pokemon series as a whole has sold more than 280 million units worldwide since its debut in 1996.
Sun and Moon’s success can likely be credited largely to the recent craze for augmented reality app Pokémon Go. The sheer numbers of Go players definitely drove bigger sales for the 3DS titles generally. At its peak, Pokémon Go had a whopping 45 million daily users, but that number has fallen over time.
