Latest PSN Hack Hit Three Different Servers This Time
Phantom Squad launched another DDoS attack last night. Three PSN servers were hit, along with servers for NBA 2K17, Battlefield 1 and GTA V. Users in Europe were hit the hardest by the PSN hack, with multiple accounts of login difficulties and hacked emails reported.
The DDoS, or Distributed Denial of Service attack, was claimed by the hacker group through a twitter post. Playstation later confirmed the outage.
The PSN outages have since been resolved, but the compromised emails will require immediate action from the affected users. In addition, users of the affected game servers are still reporting issues.
This attack marks the second December in a row that the Playstation Network was targeted by hackers. Last Christmas, new and loyal players across the board were shut out of the PSN for most of the day due to a severe DDoS attack. The previous year saw another Christmas outage, with that one claimed by the Lizard Squad.
Playstation has had a difficult history with hackers over the course of its life. Sony’s servers were hit with the largest data breach in history in 2011. Since then, there have been multiple hacks and breaches of their servers.
Anyone who’s email has been compromised in this latest attack should be taking steps to protect their data immediately. Here’s hoping that this Christmas doesn’t see another enormous PSNÂ hack.
