PS4 Pro Gives Sony a 204% Console Sales Boost
Connectivity issues aside, it looks like Sony is enjoying a huge boost in console sales thanks to the release of the PS4 Pro. In fact, sales have nearly tripled for PS4 consoles in the UK according to UK site MCVUK. Overall, it’s said that PS4 console sales rose a total of 204% week over week. That’s no small number.
When broken down further, 65 percent of all new sales were on a PS4 Pro model, but it’s important to note that both the launch and slim models saw an 8.5 percent increase week over week as well.
This boost leads to the PS4 besting Xbox One by 44 percent and claiming a 53 percent total market share of hardware sales. Microsoft was able to claim 37 percent. Whether or not these early numbers will lead to Sony dethroning MS from its four-month run on top of NPD sales remains to be seen but it certainly looks good for the boys in blue.
Still, it’s not as if Microsoft is slumping either. Recent price cuts of original models did lead the console manufacturer to its own 85% week over week increase as well. In the lead up to the holiday season and Black Friday, it will be interesting to see just how well both companies manage to fare.
