Angry No Man’s Sky Players Decide to Raise Money for Charity in Honor of Sean Murray’s Silence

The journey of No Man’s Sky has been a bumpy one. In the months before its release players expected their wildest dreams to come true in the most epic game ever imagined. A subreddit was created and members posited on what they thought was going to be the masterpiece to top all masterpieces. Then, No Man’s Sky was released and their lofty expectations were not met. In the span of a few days, r/NoMansSky went from happy go lucky to one of the most toxic and vitriolic subreddits ever created. It has continued to be angry for the past three months and now in an effort to prove that they aren’t as nasty as they seem they’ve decided to raise money for charity in honor of 90 days of Hello Games’ founder, Sean Murray not speaking to them. Yeah… we don’t get it either.

In the months since release, members of the subreddit have pleaded to have Sean Murray discuss the game with them. What that would accomplish we don’t know but it would give them all a chance to heap insults onto him in spades. The head moderator of the subreddit has now decided to organize a charity page for all those who are angry with Murray and the game to donate to. The post titled ‘90 Days of silence from Hello Games about their game. Sean Murray, we’ve come to bargain‘ has moderator BaRKy1911 go on about how his intentions are to have people critical of the subreddit to realize that despite all the vitriol they’re all a bunch of really nice guys. In the post, he says, “If we could take some of the anger and turn it into a good cause then we’re better than anybody who can claim this place to be ‘toxic.’”

The campaign aims to raise money for Cancer Research UK and is currently sitting at just over $1500 USD. Titled ‘No Man’s Sky The Game’s Journey Against Cancer‘, the campaign wastes no time cutting into the game with its very first paragraph saying, “There was a game called No Mans Sky, announced in 2014, that captured the imagination of hundreds of thousands of people, even millions. It was very much a dream for the entire development process as features were promised, but many were not delivered on. Sean Murray, the managing director of the company and effectively the face of the marketing for this game straight up lied about a lot of stuff. And following him being caught out on his lies, with the game being released, he’s gone completely silent, and the game has been effectively abandoned. This may sound pessimistic in a sense, but the potential future of the game is very dire.”

Apparently, if Sean Murray goes 110 days in silence they’ll do something a bit more local to mark the occasion. Maybe they’ll adopt some puppies or something? It all seems very bizarre that their attempt to woo Murray out of silence is to shut up for once and do something good. They’re not really giving the guy much reason to bother, are they? At the very least it’s nice to see a positive come out of a situation where a bunch of people are spending way too much time decrying something that didn’t quite meet their expectations.
