Rumor: Nintendo NX Surprise Launch on Oct 21 and Other Details
If true this would be one hell of a surprise but could you believe that the Nintendo NX is not only ready to go but would release this October 21st? Seems a stretch to us but that’s exactly what International Business Times (via Squish Turtle) is saying in a recent article. Apparently, there’s a report that claims the Japanese giant is preparing to pull the veil off of its new console as part of the fifth year anniversary of its Nintendo Direct program.
If Squish Turtle is to be believed (and let’s face it this is really high on the rumor scale) they claim that Nintendo would be looking to launch the Nintendo NX alongside the five-year anniversary of the first Nintendo Direct that debuted in 2011. In lieu of big E3 press conferences and the like, Nintendo has chosen its Nintendo Direct platform to deliver big news to fans. With no big Nintendo Direct last year due to the passing of Satoru Iwata it would seem that this could be the big bang that the company needs and is a huge opportunity.
In other Nintendo NX news, at the recent Arlington Retropalooza event YouTube star boogie2988 had some interesting things to say during a live Q&A panel. He speaks directly of Ubisoft developing for the machine and their take on programming for it.
I’ve talked to two people who have used it. One is somebody from Ubisoft and he said programming for it is actually really nice and Nintendo’s been working very closely with him and that the concept is great.
Let’s say you could play Assassin’s Creed once you have your handheld plugged into your console. And then, you could then detach the thing and take it with you and play the Assassin’s Creed mobile game out of your pocket. And then when you get back home, plug it directly in and now it attaches back to the… That’s brilliant. That’s smart, right? Taking a form of the game with you as you go. So he says it’s a dream to code for.
With rumours floating around that the much hyped Beyond Good and Evil 2 being a Nintendo NX exclusive it makes sense that Ubisoft is embracing the new console with open arms. Obviously, we’ll know nothing officially until the actual reveal and everything up to this point is pure speculation but it’s fun to wonder.
