Captain America: Civil War Trailer 2 Reaction – All the Action, ALL OF IT!

So here we are again. Marvel has dropped the second trailer for Captain America: Civil War and continues their track record of jaw dropping trailers. Let’s just say this and get it out of the way – this movie looks incredible. The marketing team has done simply an outstanding job of delivering the right balance of story, action and reveals without going over the top. But let’s jump into the action.

We get more of a setup of how the whole Civil War storyline plays out, this time focusing more on the current roster of Avengers as opposed to focusing on Winter Soldier. One of the biggest focuses of the dividing lines amongst the fearless heroes is Tony Stark’s ego, something that certainly needed to be addressed. One of the biggest things that makes Stark the Stark we know and love in the comics is his unmatchable ego. It’s to the point where you want to hate him, but that’s what makes him a great character! His ability to be humble when the time comes or to learn a lesson in the face of him being a dick most of the time.

The other thing that is at the forefront is that it is what has unfolded in the MCU thus far that is the cause of the Registry Act coming into place as opposed to Cap refusing to turn Bucky over, which the first trailer certainly placed more emphasis on. So, we’ve got a much clearer idea of the causes of the rift between the Avengers.

Then, they hit us with the action. All of the action. Tons more of Black Panther! Bucky throwing hands with practically everyone and almost shooting Tony in the face! Cap versus Iron Man! Recreations of iconic comic panels! One liners! From Black Widow’s take down of multiple soldiers to Scarlet Witch laying a beating down on Vision, we see all of our heroes in action and you can already tell that it’s only scratching the surface! Oh, and that’s Spider-Man!

Yes, webhead makes an appearance at the end of the trailer and it’s fantastic. It’s short, sweet and it delivers a line that is kind of meta in its context. There seems to be some odd assembly of people saying they hate how Spidey looks. Okay. To that group, I would like to show them what a comic book is and let them know that this is where the Marvel movies come from! Cause Spidey looks great. There also seems to be complaints that he looks to CGI. I’m not even going to dignify that nonsense with a response. In the end, it’s official! The worst kept secret in show business has been officially revealed and Spider-Man will make his MCU debut in Civil War.

In addition to the big Spider-Man reveal, this trailer absolutely blew my socks off. As I said above, the Marvel marketing team does such an amazing job with their trailers because they understand what makes a trailer powerful. For god sakes, they give us character arcs in a two minute trailer! They balance storyline, characterization, action and emotions so well that it’s impossible to not get chills while watching their trailers. Civil War is no exception. The haunting score, the different levels of action that they show and the unfolding of the plot and character arcs show us a movie trailer at the top of its game.

What these two minutes have done has not only promised us a great new Marvel film, but it promises to be the conclusion to one of the best blockbuster trilogies that we have seen. The political undertones, the story arcs, the impact on the overall MCU, the incredible action sequences – Marvel has taken Captain America and turned him into the cornerstone of the MCU. Sure, everyone loves Iron Man, but the Captain America films are the finest to come from the seemingly infallible studio. We’re just about two months out from finding out if the film can deliver on the outstanding greatness that the trailer has promised us.
