The Best Video Game Releases this Month
2017 has offered no shortage of video game releases every month. From Resident Evil VII through to Persona 5, 2017 is an early contender to having one of the best annual lineups ever. Just last month, we saw Persona 5, Sniper Ghost Warrior 3, Dragon Quest Heroes II, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Yooka-Laylee release.
Fast forward here to May, and with E3 just a month away, the games are understandably slowing down a bit as developers are preparing to show what else they have cooking. Don’t get me wrong though, as there are still quality titles set to release in May. Let’s take a look at the top 7 games set to release…
The Surge – Focus Home Interactive – PC, PS4, X1 (May 16)
What do you get when you mix the gameplay of the Souls series with a setting best compared to Elysium? The Surge places the oh-so-familiar Souls style of gameplay in the not-so-familiar dystopian setting. While best compared to the Souls games in terms of gameplay, The Surge offers unique elements specific to the setting, such as upgrading your exoskeleton. Never has a bleak dystopian future looked so appealing!
RiME – Grey Box – PC, PS4, X1 (May 26) Switch (Q3)
After originally being green-lit by Microsoft, then being funded by Sony, RiME’s IP was finally reacquired by developer Tequila Works. This cel-shaded adventure title has aptly drawn comparisons to The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Journey, and Team Ico games. Through the development cycle, a few elements had to be dropped from the game. Although expectations of the game should be tempered, RiME is looking like a beautiful adventure thus far.
Friday the 13th: The Game – Gun Media – PC, PS4, X1 (May 26)
Friday the 13th: The Game puts players into the shoes of mass murderer Jason Voorhees of hockey mask fame, and also his victims. Essentially, this game is a survival horror title in which players must survive or kill everyone, depending on who they are playing as. The game is sure to be a hit among players and viewers alike. While these types of games are 2spooky4me, expect to see lots of Let’s Plays and streams of this title.
