Destiny 2 Aims for WoW’s Longevity

Phil Spencer Believes We’ll Be Playing Destiny 2 Five to Seven Years Later

Since that poster leak of Destiny 2, Bungie has trickled out some more tasty tidbits on the anticipated online shooter set across the stars. First off, it’s launching on September 8th, 2017. Another cool aspect is that it won’t be a console exclusive, but will also be landing on PC too. Besides that, customers who pre-order any edition of the game will receive early access to its closed beta, which will be available on all three platforms. And, now we’ve gotten an interesting comment on the game’s longevity from Microsoft’s Phil Spencer.

Destiny 2
In an interview with Gamasutra on the future of Xbox, he compares Destiny 2 to World of Warcraft. No, we’re not going to be tossing plasma grenades at orcs anytime soon in Destiny 2 (at least, not for now), but we can expect to be playing the multiplayer shooter for years to come. “Destiny 2‘s gonna be one of these games that I expect five, six, seven years from now, people are still going to be playing that game,” he said while talking about games that will span generations. “It’s going to be a little bit like WoW. Which you know, whatever its been, 10 years later, 15 years later, millions of people play the game.” It’s a bold claim, but Destiny 2 does have the cache to pull such a move off as the original Destiny is still seeing plenty of play years later.

Additionally, there’s been some buzz on Reddit on incoming Destiny 2 information from streamers as well. Despite Bungie publicly stating that we won’t be seeing more info on Destiny 2 until May 18th, a popular streamer, Skill Up, hinted that there is more Destiny 2 news coming very soon. Whether this will come before that May 18th date remains to be seen.
