The new expansion, Federations and Empires, is bringing a host of changes to the way players can experience the game. Importantly, the expansion is introducing galactic governments to the game. Of course, these new features will have great impacts on how players will interact with the galaxy around them. A press release provides more details on the expansion. Additionally, an announcement trailer gives gamers a glimpse at this new galaxy.Â

Galactic Civilizations IV’s Federations and Empires expansion is introducing interstellar governments to the gameplay loop. Importantly, the expansion adds four different forms of government each with its own unique interface, resources, and gameplay. In fact, players can choose to run their civilization as an Oligarchy, a Technocracy, and Empire, or a Federation. Of course, each come with their own benefits and drawbacks that one will need to adjust to in order to properly govern. Additionally, each choice fundamentally effects how the galaxy shapes up as each type of government gains or loses influence depending on what is occurring in the galaxy at large. Elections, rebellions, secessions, and more all drive the galaxy forward and change it forever.Â
Of course, players can get a look at the new expansion in the announcement trailer. Check it out below.Â
