The Most Disappointing Games of 2018
At the start of the year you would be hard pressed to believe 2018 could top the absolutely stellar events of 2017 in the world of gaming. Some of the best games we have seen in a decade launched last year so how could 2018 beat that? Sony wiped the floor with the competition this year with stellar exclusive titles, the Switch came out swinging with fantastic titles and huge sales, and Xbox… well, they are still around. To have a year of great games, you also have to have the ones that simply weren’t up to snuff. We like to overlook those titles – especially considering how many of them are associated with the Xbox – but we would be remiss if we didn’t acknowledge that there were a few serious missteps this year. These aren’t titles we hate, but simply games that couldn’t live up to the expectations they themselves had set. Check out our list of nominees for the most disappointing games below and see who won – you probably won’t be surprised.
Each game on this list was dripping with potential: State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves, We Happy Few, all of them. Each one, unfortunately, fell to being released before they were ready or simply couldn’t live up to the hype they had already set. If there was one game that was hands down the most disappointing of the year, it had to be Fallout 76. With buggy content, a nearly ancient engine, little to do and few people who wanted to bother after the first 60 minutes, this is a project that is synonymous with failure and has gone on to tarnish the reputation of Bethesda Studios. Hopefully, they can recover and give us some sweet Elder Scrolls info in the near future as an apology.
Of course, this is only one of several awards COGconnected has lined up for the end of 2018! Which game had the Best Moment of 2018? or the Best Performance?
