Sea of Thieves Rumoured to Release on Playstation and Switch

Sea of Thieves Might See a Release on the Playstation and Switch in the Near Future

Microsoft’s exclusive pirate adventure, Sea of Thieves, might soon be expanding its horizons beyond Xbox, with rumours circulating about potential releases for PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.

Industry insiders, including Jeff Grubb of Giant Bomb and Stephen Totilo from Axios, have hinted at the possibility. Grubb, commenting on the Nate the Hate podcast’s claim about Microsoft bringing a first-party game to rival platforms, indicated that Sea of Thieves could be the title in question.

While Grubb admitted to hearing rumours about Sea of Thieves potentially landing on Switch and PlayStation, Totilo’s Game File newsletter suggested that Microsoft has considered bringing the pirate-themed co-op multiplayer game to PlayStation, with a potential release in early 2024.

Originally released for Xbox One and PC in March 2018, Sea of Thieves gained prominence by becoming the first exclusive title from Microsoft available on Xbox Game Pass simultaneously with its retail release.

While the move to release Sea of Thieves on competing platforms could be a case-by-case decision, it signals a potential shift in Microsoft’s strategy. The rumoured expansion could open new seas for Sea of Thieves, broadening its player base beyond the Xbox ecosystem.
