Xbox May Have Just Scored a Huge Advantage With GTA 6
Xbox may have just landed a major advantage ahead of the launch of GTA 6. According to a new report, Microsoft has secured exclusive streaming rights for Rockstar’s highly anticipated open-world blockbuster through Xbox Cloud Gaming.
The details reportedly surfaced during an internal Xbox town hall, where CEO Asha Sharma discussed the company’s recent growth and its plans for Project Helix. Sharma also reportedly teased a GTA 6 deal that she described as something “no other platform holder is doing.”
According to The Verge’s Tom Warren and our news source (Thanks, Insider Gaming), the agreement would allow GTA 6 to be streamed exclusively through Xbox Cloud Gaming when the game launches. That could give Xbox a particularly interesting way to attract players who don’t own an Xbox console.
The deal could also be significant for PC players. Rockstar has yet to announce a PC version of the highly anticipated title. This means Xbox Cloud Gaming could potentially become a way for PC users to experience the game at launch. However, the exact length of the streaming exclusivity remains unknown, and the deal does not confirm a native PC release.
Xbox has been steadily expanding its cloud gaming push, with the service already supporting streaming across PCs and other devices. While PlayStation has already received plenty of GTA 6-related attention, this reported Xbox deal could be one of Microsoft’s biggest moves surrounding the game yet.
For now, though, fans will have to wait for an official announcement before the official confirmation. If the report is true, Xbox may have found a very clever way to bring GTA 6 to even more players at launch.
