Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled Video Review
It’s been 20 years since the original Crash Team Racing came out, and now it’s back as more than just a simple kart racing remaster. Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled has been rebuilt from the ground up, using all of the same story, characters and track layouts, and the result is a well-rounded kart racer with beautiful, lively worlds and impressive visuals that rival even Nintendo’s Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. To watch our full review of the game, hit play on the video below.
Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled is filled with tons of content to keep you busy for hours. The main modes include Adventure Mode, which places you on a map with locked areas you must race your way through, Local Arcade Multiplayer, and Online Multiplayer. The Adventure Mode is pretty decent, with just the right amount of humor thrown in, although the difficulty levels probably could use some tweaking. There are also many different types of races and games that can be played both online and locally such as Battle Mode and Relic Race. Battle Mode pits up to 8 players against each other in a series of non-racing events, and Relic Race (which can be found both online and in Adventure Mode) forces you to complete the race in a certain amount of time.
Visually, Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled is an immense step up from the original, and there are so many nuances to notice in the backgrounds and fun characters and details that make the worlds feel so alive. The cutscenes before the boss battles are humorous and well-animated, and the visual experience of the game as a whole is even a touch more impressive than Nintendo’s Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The game does have some awful loading times and a few control issues such as the odd power slide/turbo technique, and it’s unfortunate that the buttons cannot be remapped. Despite these issues, Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled as a whole is a top-notch kart racer that will please any fan of the original game or new player jumping in for the first time.
