The Jackbox Naughty Pack Review – Oh, Behave

The Jackbox Naughty Pack Review

The newest Jackbox Games pack is upon us, and it’s not “Jackbox Party Pack 11”. This is the Jackbox Naughty Pack. It’s three Jackbox-style games, all with a sexual twist. It’s a pack made for drunken parties, where kids aren’t present. There’s lots of explicit language about sex, genitalia, pubic regions, etc. so be warned! If you’ve never played a Jackbox pack before, The Jackbox Naughty Pack is a great starting place. If you’re familiar with the Jackbox games, read on, and I’ll tell you what you can find in this one.

For those who haven’t played Jackbox games before, they’re party games that require smartphones. After the game is booted on your console a room code is given, and everyone has to go to jackbox.tv on their smartphones, and enter the room code. The games use your console and TV as a central hub, and gameplay often involves writing or drawing in secret on each individual’s phone. There are online options to play the games, but they are best played locally, where players can share laughter, and see each other’s reactions.

Fakin’ It All Night Long

Fakin’ It All Night Long is the filthy version of Jackbox classic game Fakin’ It. It’s a game that’s best played with at least 4 people, and the more you get, the more fun will be had. There’s several chooseable rounds within Fakin’ It All Night Long, but they all amount to one person being told they are “a faker”. Everyone except the faker is given a prompt like “Raise your hand if cowgirl is your favorite position”, and everyone has to do something like raise their hands if that’s true. The group does this several times. The faker never knows the prompt, and everyone in the room has to vote on who they think is faking after a few prompts.

Every round a randomly chosen player gets to pick the next round’s game within Fakin’ It All Night Long. One fun round has everyone sending the emoji they think best represents a situation. The final round is always “Text You Up, where players have to write answers to questions. The faker has a different, but similar question to everyone else. Everyone has to guess the faker based on the shared responses. This was my favorite round of Fakin’ It All Night Long, by far, and I wish it was just its own game in The Jackbox Naughty Pack.

Dirty Drawful

Dirty Drawful is another dirty twist on a Jackbox classic. The regular version of Drawful is the main reason I keep getting the Jackbox Party packs. It’s the most ingenious combination of Pictionary and Balderdash. At the start of a round, everyone is given a different secret prompt they have to draw. Then, one at a time, the prompts are shared to the group. Each player has to make up a prompt for the drawing they see. Then, finally, each drawing is shared with all the prompts everyone wrote, and the players have to vote on which prompt they think was the one given by the game. Points are awarded for correct guesses, and for players whose fake prompts are chosen.

Let Me Finish

Let Me Finish is the token new game in The Jackbox Naughty Pack. It took a bit of time for our group to figure out how to play, but once we understood, the game was a blast. The group is shown a picture of several things, and given a prompt like “Which of these hats would most likely be worn by a serial killer?”. Players have to circle their choice on their phones, then every player is given a few seconds to verbally justify their choice to the group. Everyone in the group has to choose which of the other players put forth the best argument.

The Jackbox Naughty Pack only has 3 games, as opposed to the usual 5 found on normal Jackbox Party Packs, but it costs half the price. I was kind of turned off by some of the menu imagery at first. It’s like grotesque Hanna Barabara cartoons, but the game used it to great comedic effect. The timing of some of the cartoons was perfect. The music was a mixture of ambient and 70s porn music. It was fairly subtle, but an occasional moan would pop up to great laughter from the room.

Some Bugs

In general, The Jackbox Naughty Pack can be pretty buggy. It’s nothing deal breaking, but everyone had to refresh jackbox.tv on their phones several times during our hour of play. All of a sudden someone would realize their phone wasn’t responding while they were drawing or writing. A quick browser refresh fixes it, but this can be very frustrating when trying to get the hang of a new game. The music was also weirdly loud during the tutorial section of Fakin’ It All Night Long. It was hard to hear the instructions, and I hope it’s something that gets balanced in a patch.

If you’ve got every Jackbox Party Pack, then The Jackbox Naughty Pack really has only one new game for you. But if you’ve never played one, this offering has 3 games, one of which is the most perfect party game ever. The humor really connected with my group. And although there were some bugs, and frustration connecting our phones, they were never game breaking. For $20 The Jackbox Naughty Pack is a fantastic party game purchase.
