Mega Man X
If you didn’t like the sound of the Battle Network series, then perhaps this might sway you over. Heralded by plenty of reviewers as a masterpiece, Mega Man X was met with plenty of praise for its take on the side-scrolling shooter. Set way in the future from the original Mega Man games, X starts off strong and includes plenty of new features and mechanics to shake up a franchise which was on the border of becoming stale.
With plenty of challenging puzzles to find as you explore each zone, and a newly introduced weapon upgrade system, this game sure has plenty to offer for such a small price.
Minish Cap
The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap has won plenty of praise in the past for its fascinating premise and unique gameplay, as well as some beautiful environments to roam around. Aided by a talking, bird-like hat that grants Link the ability to shrink his size, Link must scour the lands in order to repair a sacred blade shattered by a crazed wizard and, once again, save Princess Zelda. The shrinking mechanic is worked into the actual game flawlessly and is a delight to play with, unveiling a world never seen in the Zelda universe before.
The amount of charm this game has is criminal. Whether Link is casually strolling around town or fighting for his life against hordes of monsters it still retains that feel-good Zelda style and is easy to sink hours into.
Fire Emblem
Fire Emblem was the game that taught its players the meaning of care when it comes to controlling different troops. In this instalment, you play as a tactician who must command a group of warriors and mages in order to defend the rightful heir to the throne. Fire Emblem is a tactical gem. It raises the stakes and demands you take it slow; to carefully plot your every move, lest you lose a member of your team and have to live with their blood on your hands.
The added suspense element is nothing new now-a-days, but the recent Fire Emblem games have done it so well that it isn’t fair to compare them to other games. It has replayability, some heart-warming moments in the story, and an addictive, simple to learn combat system.
