4 – Far Cry 5 – Coming February 27, 2018
If Ubisoft was looking to shake-up an aging franchise, then give them a hearty “Mission Accomplished,” with Far Cry 5‘s Middle-America setting and Christian fundamentalist villains definitely causing a stir this year. Our chance to try it out whetted our appetite to see the final product, and that provocative narrative will no doubt make for a fresh Far Cry experience when it comes out.
3 – God of War – Coming Early 2018
Sony revealed God of War back at E3 2016, and this time Kratos is older and a father, with his son Atreus getting near-equal time in what appears to be a soft reboot. One of Sony’s all-time great exclusive franchises looks to be very much alive and well, with beautiful visuals, a Norse-inspired theme, and exciting combat worthy of gaming’s most famous Tragic Hero. Look for this rage-fest to storm the PS4 in early 2018.
2 – Assassin’s Creed: Origins – Coming October 27, 2017
Ubisoft has promised that this next installment of the vaunted Assassin’s Creed series is “not what AC used to be,” and looking at the early reveals, that is just fine by us. Our own Shawn Petraschuk calls it “the best looking AC entry in years,” and if you look at the footage you’ll agree. That, combined with some cool new gameplay mechanics and a huge world to explore as you wish, makes Assassin’s Creed Origins a Must-Play on October 27th.
1 – Red Dead Redemption 2 – Coming 2018
In 2010, a game called Red Dead Redemption came out and blew us away. Gamers were skeptical that Rockstar, makers of the legendary GTA series, could bring the same magic to a Western title. But somehow, Red Dead’s addictive mix of horse riding, gunfights, and well-written Old West story came together perfectly. Red Dead Redemption 2‘s reveal Trailer didn’t give us much gameplay, but we still can’t wait to saddle up and ride its beautiful, unforgiving wilderness once again. We don’t know exactly when it comes out, other than the Fall of 2018, but our own Eric Schinzer recently reported on a rumor that it will be “sometime between September 11th and 17th.” No matter what, this one’s sure to deliver, pardner, so polish up your six-shooter and get your pre-orders in right away.
Well, there you have it. From open-world adventures to first-person shooters, we have a lot to get excited about with these upcoming PS4 games. So say goodbye to your significant other, load up on junk food, and book off some serious time, because your game list is about to get a whole lot longer!
