7. Don’t Knock Twice
Loosely based on the story from the film of the same name, Don’t Knock Twice was built as a VR horror experience. You’ll play as a distraught mother searching a large manor for her missing daughter, rummaging through each room and solving simple puzzles in your pursuit. This is, however, the home of a demonic witch who has not taken kindly to the intrusion. The witch is able to appear in any room at any time to terrify you. While this doesn’t seem too scary at first, try playing this at night in handheld mode a few inches from your face and tell me your heart doesn’t begin to race.
6. Resident Evil… All Of Them?
The library of games from the iconic horror franchise now available on the Switch is larger than you might think. There are currently six different Resident Evil games available on Switch in North America, with two more releasing October 29th. This series is legendary for its horror and is synonymous with gaming monstrosities and terror. Who wouldn’t want to take Leon Kennedy with them anywhere they went?
5. Darkwood
Not unlike the basic premise of White Night, Darkwood is told from a classic top-down perspective with plenty of RPG and survival-horror aspects to keep you tense. Featuring semi-open world exploration with new areas unlocked as the story progresses, a day/night cycle, trading, stealth, combat, and all that fun stuff, Darkwood likes to pick away at you as you try to navigate through the darkness, only able to see a few yards in front of your noses by the light of your trusty lantern. It’s a game that feels open and vast and yet oddly claustrophobic. With it’s beautiful art style and great sound effects, you’ll be clenching your Switch a little tighter than you might think.
Something of a love letter to the entire horror film franchise, Dead by Daylight has a similar premise to Friday the 13th: The Game, but amped up to 11. Players will work together as survivors in a remote area where they attempt to start up five generators to restore power and escape. One player, however, will be a terrifying serial killer hell bent on murdering them all. Survivors and killers include original characters and horror movie icons such as Ghost Face, Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, and even ‘The Pig’ from SAW. There is a lot more substance to Dead by Daylight than you might think, just don’t let that substance be your viscera.
