Nintendo Clarifies Game Vouchers Won’t Be Valid for Switch 2 Exclusives

A Confirmation From Nintendo

The Switch 2 builds on the original device in many ways, offering improvements and new features, while still maintaining some similarities with existing systems. In light of this, Nintendo has issued a reminder that the current Switch Online game voucher service does not apply to Switch 2 exclusives. This means that games like Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza, which have been confirmed as exclusive to the new console, cannot be redeemed using the existing voucher program.

Nintendo shared this reminder through its Japanese customer support account on social media. While the company has not yet introduced a new or replacement program for the Switch 2, there is some positive news for players. You can still redeem vouchers for two regular Switch games under the current program. Moreover, the Switch 2’s compatibility with the original Switch means players can easily continue to enjoy most of their existing games right away. For those with just one copy of a game, GameShare could be a convenient option to share it across consoles.

In recent months, the Switch Game Voucher program has expanded to include titles like Super Mario Party Jamboree, Mario & Luigi: Brothership, and Xenoblade Chronicles X. These additions highlight Nintendo’s ongoing efforts to offer players more value with the voucher system. Looking ahead, Nintendo has also confirmed that certain Switch games will be receiving both free and paid upgrades for the Switch 2. This means that many players will be able to seamlessly transition to the new system without losing access to their favorite titles, making the upgrade process a smoother experience.
