The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games September 2025

3 Up, 3 Down – September 2025

September 2025 was the most stacked month of 2025 for quality videogame releases. Borderlands 4 scored 89/100 and won’t make The Good section of this article. We also had a game score 100/100, but it won’t release until October, so we’re going to push it to next month’s article, in order to make space for all three 90+ games from September 2025. The Bad section is also full of the most high-profile lemons we’ve featured in a while. Without further ado, here are The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games September 2025:

The Good

Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles

Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles is a loving remaster of the classic PS1 strategy JRPG Final Fantasy Tactics. It has an enhanced version, with quality of life updates, and a classic version, completely faithful to the PS1 original game. There’s also restored content from the Japanese PS1 game, never before seen in any North American version. Our reviewer noted “Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles’ gameplay is the pinnacle of the strategy JRPG genre. It’s the system that has influenced all tactical JRPGs since”. A remaster this well-done, of a game this important, is an easy inclusion in The Good section of The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games September 2025.

Hollow Knight: Silksong

Hollow Knight: Silksong is the long-awaited sequel to Hollow Knight, one of the most beloved Metroidvania games of all-time. It was announced in 2021, and became one of the most anticipated games every year for the past several years. Our reviewer concluded “It carries the spirit of the original while introducing fresh mechanics that shape a remarkable adventure, one worthy of standing alongside its predecessor”. Thankfully, Hollow Knight: Silksong is an easy inclusion in The Good section of The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games September 2025.

Silent Hill f

Silent Hill f is the first Japanese-developed entry in the Silent Hill franchise, since Silent Hill 4: The Room. It leaves the American Silent Hill setting, and sets the game in Japan. The game has bizarre floral visuals, and a story written by Higurashi When They Cry creator Ryukishi07. Some have criticized the game’s combat, which our reviewer noted “pales in comparison to the game’s atmosphere and puzzle design”. Despite the combat, Silent Hill f still scored 90/100, which makes it a top contender in The Good section of The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games September 2025.
