The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games from November 2022

The Bad

Gungrave G.O.R.E.

Gungrave is an old, Devil May Cry-inspired shooter franchise. There’s a contingent of fans really excited for Gungrave G.O.R.E. The main reason its in the bottom end of The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games from November 2022, is that the gameplay hasn’t evolved much. Gungrave G.O.R.E. is a stylish and fun game, but its very short, and doesn’t have much depth. It’s one of those titles that peaks in the beginning, and feels repetitive by the end. Our reviewer concluded “if you’re a fan of chaotic third person shooters, you might find Gungrave G.O.R.E. entertaining for a few minutes. Just don’t expect the fun to last.”

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

COGconnected scored Pokemon Scarlet & Violet very well. Our reviewer gave it a 78. They loved the new open-world design, sense of freedom, and multiplayer options. They noted that there were lots of issues though. The game is plagued with pop-ins, framerate drops, and glitches. These problems were so prevalent, that, at times, Pokemon Scarlet & Violet feels unfinished. It’s a game that exceeds expectations in a lot of ways, but is also guilty of several unforgivable issues. Nintendo should have postponed the game’s release, but they didn’t. Our reviewer concluded: “the number of performance issues cannot be overlooked and these hinder what could have been a highlight of the series.”

Star Ocean: The Divine Force

It’s rare that a game with a review score of 65/100 would be in the bottom of The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games from November 2022. But November 2022 was a really great month for games. Star Ocean: The Divine Force has great combat mechanics, and a really compelling narrative. But it also has a horrible presentation. Players constantly have to fight the camera, and some of the visuals would have looked dated in an early PS2 game. The Star Ocean series has been disappointing fans since its third entry, but The Divine Force is the first time since the PS1 that an entry has been better than the one before it. Hopefully the series will have a chance to continue and improve. In the end, our reviewer declared “I would only recommend this game to forgiving action JRPG fans and series veterans”.
