The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games January 2026

The Bad

Code Violet

Code Violet is a third person shooter, with a POV inspired by Resident Evil 4. The player is shooting dinosaurs, which makes it also inspired by another Capcom classic, Dino Crisis. While Code Violet looks great, it also has lots of bugs. Our reviewer didn’t enjoy the action, and described it as “often spiral[ing] into chaotic, awkward scrambles that feel more frustrating than threatening”. Code Violet is the lowest scoring game in The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games January 2026.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins (Switch 2)

The Switch 2 port of Dynasty Warriors: Origins is not great. It suffers from lots of frequent load times, framerate issues, and an awful English dub. Our reviewer enjoyed the core third person Musou action gameplay. They wrote “The battles are snappy, massive in scale, and crammed with cool mechanics”. Players should stick to the other versions though. Dynasty Warriors: Origins is one of two bad Switch ports in The Bad section of The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games January 2026.

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition (Switch)

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is a Switch port of a very beloved last gen third person action game. It’s also a massive graphical downgrade of game that’s now 13 years old. Our reviewer noted “I’d recommend Tomb Raider on Switch for the handheld experience alone, but that argument falls apart when you remember that Tomb Raider is available on PC and verified on Steam Deck”. Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is the other bad Switch port in The bad section of The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games January 2026.
