5. Marvel’s Midnight Suns
Though originally released in 2022, Marvel’s Midnight Suns was subsequently released on more platforms in 2023, leading to its inclusion on COGconnected’s list of Best New IPs of 2023. With Marvel-licensed games being quality releases in recent years, Marvel’s Midnight Suns as a tactical RPG by strategy veterans Firaxis Games is a match made in heaven.
4. Starfield
One of Xbox and Bethesda’s biggest new IPs, Starfield, easily ranks among COGconnected’s Best New IPs of 2023. While players’ experiences may vary depending on their decisions within the game, it is hard to argue against Starfield’s place in 2023 and the massive potential for the franchise going forward.
3. Hogwarts Legacy
Building on its massively successful novel and film series, Hogwarts Legacy comes in at number 3 on COGconnected’s list of Best New IPs of 2023. Overall, the title’s sense of exploration and overall atmosphere propelled it towards the podium in this category. As one of the most successful games of the year in general, we can’t wait to see what comes next from Portkey Games.
2. Lies of P
Soulslike titles have been coming out in relative droves over the years, but Lies of P is the first to take on the Bloodborne formula successfully. With its overall strong gameplay and unique weapon combat mechanics, Lies of P is one of our favorite games of the year, along with being one of our Best New IPs of 2023.
1. Sea of Stars
Coming in as COGconnected’s Best New IP of 2023 is Sea of Stars. Inspired by classic JRPGs, Sea of Stars combines its phenomenal score, art, and engaging combat to earn a 95 from COGconnected and its place at the top of this list. With a couple of amazing games under its belt, we look forward to Sabotage Studio’s next title, with hopes it will continue moving the IP forward.
