Best Fighter – Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
While there were a few strong contenders this year, it was the announcement – and lengthy 25 minute showing – of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate that won the event. Bringing every single fighter back, including new ones, and revamping each character to make them even more unique made it just incredible. This is a franchise of legend and this new entry is giving fans everything they could want – including the much sought after Ridley as a playable character. The buzz at E3 when this was announced was everywhere and it simply had to win.
Best Adventure – Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
After a serious revitalization in the last game, Odyssey looks to delve even deeper into the rich story of ancient Greece and the Peloponnesian War. Letting you play as either male or female protagonist, building off of Origin’s revamped combat, and including dialogue options pull Odyssey even deeper into the RPG elements. Ubisoft promises a much deeper and richer story than we have seen before and we can easily see it already.
Best Multiplayer – The Division 2
Despite stiff competition from some huge names, The Division 2 takes the third person squad combat and ramps it up with new specializations and all around better controls. This is a game that enhances everything done before and really cements the necessity and power of an effective squad and real tactics as opposed to simple running and gunning. What we played at E3 was a great experience and the full title with all its upcoming free content is sure to impress.
Best Booth Design – Fortnite
Like Trevor said, if you drop a Battle Bus in your booth you’ve already won. Resident Evil had a police car, Rage 2 had some nice graffiti, but Fortnite had the Battle Bus, turf, and so much more. It was a pleasure and a great experience to go to the Fortnite booth and be immersed in a small real world slice of the now iconic and incredibly popular game.
Best Booth Carpet – WB Games
Well you might not realize it from home, E3 is a lot of exercise. Easily ten hours or more of being on your feet to check out every game you possibly can. Interviews, demos, workshops, all that good stuff requires standing in line and lines can take forever, so when a company is kind enough to lay out some plush flooring it is a godsend. WB Games filled their booth with quite possibly the most plush and comfortable carpet we have seen, taking pressure off our sore feet and providing a few much needed moments of serenity.
