Five Control Resonant Weapon Combos to Keep You in Control
Control Resonant is almost here, and with it comes an entirely new combat system. Gone is Jesse’s Service Weapon, with Dylan’s Aberrant taking the helm. Aberrant is a shapeshifting melee weapon that, while not allowing for ranged strategies players developed in Control, gives us the opportunity to discover new tactics through its slew of modifiable combinations. Do you like your melee slow and methodical? Fast-paced and reactionary? Or maybe something in between? Either way, Control Resonant gives you those options. Let’s break down the best of the best to help with your fight against the Hiss.

Glaive + Crush
This was my bread and butter for the majority of my initial playthrough. The Glaive + Crush combo brings wide, sweeping attacks that push back mobs, while also being capable of bringing the pain if anything gets too close to Dylan. Charged attacks with Crush are also excellent at building enemy falter meters, meaning they quickly become prone to executions. And I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that with a modest investment, Crush becomes capable of lifting enemies into the air, making them particularly vulnerable. Glaive + Crush never let me down, and it’ll do the same for you.

Cleave + Extend
On the flip side, there’s Cleave + Extend. Cleave turns your basic attack into a slow, deliberate action that players will want to consider before executing. Sure, this combination takes a bit more thought, but the trade-off is massive. Cleave dominates most enemies in Control Resonant, breaking down their defenses faster than you can say Old Gods of Asgard. Extend is the yin to Cleave’s yang, ensuring that players are able to immediately defend themselves when groups of enemies close the distance. Like Glaive + Crush, Cleave + Extend combines raw power with blistering speed capable of adapting to most situations.

Strike + Drill
Strike + Drill is a fantastic combo if landing critical hits is your thing. While it doesn’t have the range or strength of the previous entries, it more than makes up for it by routinely taking massive chunks of health out of anything foolish enough to go one-on-one with you. Strike itself is excellent at stun-locking enemies while you chip away at them. Drill is capable of extending that stun-lock even further. When combined, Strike + Drill is the go-to choice for keeping baddies at close range while melting their health bar. Be sure to snag “Precise Agility” and “Cut and Run” from Strike’s skilltree ASAP, as these skills give large buffs to critical hit chances.

Cleave + Crush
If you tend to identify with characters that love to just Hulk-smash everything, Cleave + Crush is the ticket. It ain’t fast, and it ain’t pretty, but Cleave + Crush is a devastating combo that leaves no open space for enemies to counter. While this wouldn’t be my choice for tackling mobs, Cleave + Crush is a beast against bosses. I’d actually argue that this combination makes the first handful of bosses too easy. Spend some time learning the timing between landing attacks and dodging, and Cleave + Crush will reward you with nothing but raw, ruthless damage output.

Glaive + Drill
The best part about Glaive + Drill is that it does a great job of covering one’s bases. Think of it as a jack-of-all-trades type weapon. The Glaive pushes weaker enemies back, creating space for you to follow up with the Drill on the sturdier foes. Drill is also capable of the ‘Board Rebuttal’ skill, which makes Dylan take less damage while drilling. It all but guarantees you’ll be able to safely dispatch strong opponents while shaking off the weaksauce attacks from this week’s lunch menu. Plus, anything in combination with the Glaive is going to guarantee you some eye-catching moves. Don’t overlook the Glaive + Drill; it can get through almost anything in Control Resonant.

Thank you for keeping it locked on COGconnected.
