The Future is Canadian
Luigi’s Mansion 3
Developed by: Next Level Games. Location: Vancouver, BC
The greener half of the platforming plumber duo is back in the spotlight with Luigi’s Mansion 3. Switch owners are in for a spooky treat when this one arrives later this year.
Gears 5
Developed by: The Coalition. Location: Vancouver, BC
The sixth installment of the Gears of War franchise, Gears 5 continues the story that began in Gears of War 4, but this time follows the story of Kait Diaz. This could be the Xbox One’s swan song.
NHL 20
Developed by: EA Vancouver. Location: Vancouver, BC
NHL 20. It’s like NHL 19, but with an updated roster and improved play-by-play broadcasting.
Marvel’s Avengers
Developed by: Eidos Montreal. Location: Montreal, QC.
Eidos Montreal (in conjunction with Crystal Dynamics) is hard at work on Marvel’s Avengers. This game will feature a world where superheroes are outlawed, and the Avengers’ must work to restore humanities faith in them while battling with some of their most dangerous foes. It’s worth noting that Marvel’s Avengers will not be tied into the Marvel Cinematic Universe – but there are rumours it could be connected to Marvel’s Spider-Man, the PlayStation 4 exclusive by Insomniac Games.
Watch Dogs: Legion
Developed by: Ubisoft Toronto. Location: Toronto
Watch Dogs: Legion is the hugely ambitious follow-up to Watch Dogs 2. The big change is the ability to control damn near anyone as you recruit the people of London to join your cause. At E3 2019, we all witnessed an old lady kick some serious butt. If the game can live up to the hype, the end result could be incredible.
That concludes our look at the amazing Canadian developers who continue to bring gamers around the world incredible games. This list is nowhere near exhaustive, it’s just a small, poutine-flavored taste of what Canada brings to gaming. And just as the maple syrup flows, so to will the stream of games from this beautiful, beaver-filled country. Game on, eh!
