Celebrating Canada Day With The Best Canadian Made Video Games

Oldies But Goodies

Let’s take a look at some Canadian developed gems that have been around for five years or longer.

Dead Rising 2 (and 3, and 4)

Developed by: Capcom Vancouver. Location: Vancouver, BC

Dead Rising Triple Bundle Pack

Dead Rising 2 really took the Dead Rising franchise and ran. Featuring a larger area, combo-weapons, and a far more enjoyable protagonist (sorry, Frank) – Dead Rising 2 is probably the best game in the franchise.

Mario Strikers Charged

Developed by: Next Level Games. Location: Vancouver, BC

The Wii entry in the Mario Strikers series, Mario Strikers Charged features the beloved Super Mario cast competing in a wild game of soccer. With any luck, maybe Next Level Games will get to work on a Switch version after Luigi’s Mansion 3 is released…

Max Payne 3

Developed by: Rockstar Games Vancouver. Location: Vancouver, BC.

The Die Hard of gaming and another franchise that desperately needs a sequel, Max Payne 3 was developed by the now-defunct Rockstar Games Vancouver. With sights set on Grand Theft Auto VI and a rumoured Bully sequel, it’s unlikely Max Payne will see the dark of night anytime soon, but one can hope.

Eternal Darkness

Developed by: Silicon Knights. Location: St. Catherines, ON

GameCube Feature Screen 20

A mind-bending, horror game that played just as many tricks on the gamer as it did the in-game characters, Eternal Darkness was an absolute treat – for those few of us that actually played it. Unfortunately, it never received the attention it deserved and a sequel never happened. However, a “spiritual successor” might still happen if the defunct Silicon Knights president Denis Dyack has his way…

Don’t Starve

Developed by: Klei Entertainment. Location: Vancouver, BC

Don’t Starve is a beloved survival game that forces you to fend for yourself and survive. It features randomly generated levels to keep returning players on their toes.
