3 Things We Loved (and Hated) About The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Beta

The Worst

KD Not Present In-Game

Regardless of whether you’re having a great game or getting absolutely pummeled by the enemy team a signature feature of the Call of Duty franchise has been the ability to see your kill/death ratio in-game. Until now that is. Much like the mini-map that Infinity Ward decided to scrap, before promptly returning it to the game day two of the beta, the ability to check on your KD in-game needs to return. Sure, it’s a small feature to complain about, but it’s simply weird not having it there. I want to know how trash I am at the game gosh darnit.

Spawns

You might have just groaned reading the caption here but yes, the spawns are simply atrocious within the Modern Warfare beta. Notably even worse within the Hackney Yard map. We’re not asking for a perfect spawning system in a game that’s as fast-paced as Call of Duty, but is it really too much to ask for to have a halfway decent spawning system in place to avoid all the frustration? From spawning in the midst of enemy players in their spawn to spawning and dying from an enemy spawning in behind me it’s really not a good time. The worst part is there’s no variability in the spawning system here. There are two main spawn points, making it very, very easy to become victim to spawn trapping. But hey, if that’s your idea of a fun Friday night, party on Infinity Ward.

Night maps

While there might be those out there that will disagree with this statement, the night maps need to get the boot. I 100% appreciate the creativity that went into this latest addition to the COD franchise and applaud Infinity Ward for trying something new, but these just aren’t great. Sometimes it seems better to play with the night vision goggles on and other times it feels like they’re inhibiting the ability to see enemies properly. Honestly, I’m just confused. While I’m all-in for the realism of the maps, textures and shadows make it hard to truly enjoy the game mode. If I wanted to run around in the dark, unsure of what I’m really seeing, I’d just take a stroll down a dark alley in the middle of the night. If the night maps are to stay, they need some major graphical and visual improvements, and stat.
