3 – How will the R-rated Director’s Cut impact the film?
Stephan:
They’ve said it won’t be a harsh R, and that it will be a bit more violent, but what I’m most excited about is that it’s 30 minutes longer! That can change a film! Kingdom Of Heaven was a mediocre film that had a 45 minute longer Director’s Cut, which turned it into one of the best movies I’d ever seen. And if that Watchmen Ultimate Cut taught me anything, it’s that Zack Snyder Director’s Cuts are king!
Doug:
The best case scenario for the Director’s Cut is that it can add some nuance to the overcomplicated plot and it will be a little more violent. Of course, I feel that Snyder, for all his skills at being stylish and making things go BOOM!, has all the nuance of the Doomsday fight scene that he created. I can’t imagine that an extra 35 minutes (which puts the movie over 3 hours now) would somehow revolutionize an already too long movie. Maybe it might explain how Doomsday was made. Maybe it might explain all of the dream sequences. Maybe it will explain (A)Lex(ander) Luthors’ motivations. This is only a small list of grievances I would like to see remedied, but the only ones that I can imagine a half hour could help.
4 –Â Are you still excited for a Justice League movie? Which solo movie are you most looking forward to?
Stephan:
Yes! I don’t really like any of the Justice League characters solo (except Batman), but some great stories have been told about their team dynamic. I’m a bigger fan of Zack Snyder films, so anything he makes, I’m watching.
If we don’t count Man Of Steel 2 or the Ben Affleck directed Batman movie, I’m most excited for an Aquaman movie, mainly because I love the visual interpretation of the character. Jason Momoa looks like a total mer-barbarian.
Doug:
Oh, goodness me, am I ever still excited for a Justice League movie!! I’m quivering in anticipation at finally seeing the JL on the big screen! Minus Cyborg, I’m actually quite pleased with the casting for the heroes and JL has potential to be incredible. Of course, in order for it to be as solid as it could be, a new creative team needs to take over. For instance, someone who can write superheroes would be helpful. Also, a director that has vision would also be helpful. Considering that JL starts filming right about… now, though. Probably not a good sign for the quality of this future project.
As for a solo movie, I’m just going to go ahead and throw this out there – Aquaman. He’s my favourite non-Trinity JL member along with Flash, but since I get so much Flash on TV (different universe, I know), I’m actually more excited to see what James Wan and Jason Momoa do with the character! In particular, Jason Momoa.
The battle concludes on page three…
