The 3 Best (and Worst) of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II

The Best

3) Quick Gameplay

Though it may not look entirely like it, thankfully Modern Warfare II still feels very much like Call of Duty. The firefights are frenetic and the maps are built for quick paced run-and-gunning, while most are just open and inviting enough for snipers. The movement, though not as conducive to jumping around everywhere, is fast and sprinting with your gun in the air is just as fun as it has been in the last couple of Call of Duty games. The matches go by quickly, with a definite sense of urgency at every flag capture and tag grabbed or denied. Of course there’s also that same sense of accomplishment when you win a game too. Jump in for a game, you might stay for a couple of hours!

2) Diverse Array of Weaponry

Despite the incomplete package offered with Modern Warfare II what doesn’t disappoint, at all, is the complete catalog of weapons at our disposal. Including secondary weapons there are a whopping 52 to choose from! Additionally there are 34 total tactical, lethal and field upgrades. There are 7 different primary weapon categories, each of which have at least 4 guns. There are the usual 3 secondary weapon categories – melee, handguns and launchers too. These weapons are all a lot of fun to use, level up and customize in gunsmith. Whether you want to play a bit more strategically and methodically with a sniper, battle rifle or marksman rifle, or you want to go balls to the wall with an SMG or shotgun, there’s something for everyone. Hell, even if you just want to be the annoying person running around the map noob tubing everyone, I can’t say I fully blame you. It’s a damn good time.

1) Fantastic & Realistic Graphics

We may not think of Call of Duty when it comes to the best graphics in the industry but Modern Warfare II definitely gives some of the big AAA story games like the upcoming God of War Ragnarök a run for its money. Okay, well maybe the graphics in Modern Warfare II aren’t exactly at that level but they certainly are buttery smooth, environments are incredibly rich and cutscenes are impressive. What’s even better is that they’re also realistic and that’s exactly what I want any FPS title to be. I’m not sure I’ve ever been this impressed with the graphics in Call of Duty before, so Infinity Ward deserves huge props here.
