Halo Infinite (December 8, 2021)
Of course, that’s if Halo Infinite doesn’t beat it to the top of that list first. It’s been almost 6 long years since fans have played a new franchise title and even longer since there was one worth going crazy for. Feel free to argue with me on this but Halo 5: Guardians just wasn’t it. Now Halo Infinite has a chance to win everyone over again and damn are 343 Industries putting in work to see that happen. Fans have a lot to be happy about, with some new and challenging maps, a ping system, a new AI to replace Cortana (though she will be missed), and of course Master Chief back at the helm. Microsoft stirred up all the good vibes, even more, when they announced that multiplayer will be completely free for everyone. If that doesn’t get you excited I’m truly not sure what will.
Horizon Forbidden West (EDITOR’S NOTE: DELAYED UNTIL 2022)
Horizon Zero Dawn is definitely one of the best titles ever made for PlayStation. It quickly shot to the top of the best games ever to grace the PS4 and despite being a few years old, has seen a ton of success with its PC release as well. Naturally a sequel was announced and now, Horizon Forbidden West, is within striking distance. It’s set to release later this year, and though there’s no month given, it’s likely it will drop before the holidays this year. Guerilla Games is set to take us on a brand new emotional and immersive adventure with Aloy, in a brand new environment, facing off against some terrifying new predators. We can expect Horizon Forbidden West to be a graphical masterpiece, made next level with the PS5. The DualSense controller is an absolute game changer too. I can only imagine how it’s going to feel to notch and release an arrow with Aloy’s bow. If this one’s not on your list already, it should be.
The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes (October 22, 2021)
From the creators of Until Dawn comes an interesting and immersive series: The Dark Pictures Anthology. House of Ashes is the third of eight planned titles and is set to be just as immersive and scary as the first two in the series. It’s graphically impressive, has a strong and compelling cast of military characters and will have you (and your friends) on the edge of your seat. You’ll need quick thinking to try and keep your players alive. Oh it’s haunting and so well executed. If you’ve been looking for a fantastic horror series to sink your teeth into, this is the one.
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond / Pokémon Shining Pearl (November 19, 2021)
The Pokémon franchise is undoubtedly one of the biggest in the world. Since the very first games, Pokémon Red and Green, released in 1996 it’s taken off like Team Rocket. Millennials everywhere are escaping from reality with a heavy dose of nostalgia and Gen Z is beginning their journeys to become the greatest Pokémon master of all time. The adventures into the Sinnoh region, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl have been remade for the Switch, previously released for the Nintendo DS in 2006, and it’s sure to be a fun time. Especially with the graphical touch-ups to the already cute artsy look and the ability to play with the joy-cons, which will surely be a nice touch. Can you catch ‘em all? You’re going to find out in just a few months!
