Rune Factory 4
Farming? Check. Crafting? Check. Adventuring? Check. Combat? Check. Rune Factory 4 plays very much like a love letter to both Harvest Moon and The Legend of Zelda series, and is wonderful because of it. For reasons unknown to me, the title did not sell very globally well despite having a strong fan following. Although a financial success, the developers filed for bankruptcy and left the series on a high note for now. The whole team was eventually hired on, so perhaps a successor or spiritual successor will build upon this great title.
Bravely Second
Bravely Second has sold about half of what the original Bravely title did, despite polishing up everything the first game did and doing more of the same and better. Many, including myself, were annoyed by the later portions of the first game, which may have lead to feelings of uncertainty regarding the sequel. Fans of the first game who may have been on the fence on this one because of that do not have to worry, as Bravely Second is recommended!
Final Fantasy Explorers
Final Fantasy Explorers, though a Final Fantasy title, is a spin-off on the series that follows a quest-based structure more akin to the Monster Hunter series. While that sounds like a recipe for success, the title was definitely not a success in the West. Although the title is a fun game to play with friends or yourself, one should not expect an epic scale story and adventure. Rather, fans of Final Fantasy would enjoy this title for its interesting take on the series as well as series icons.
Mario Golf: World Tour
Like a wise man once said, a Nintendo list without a Mario title is no Nintendo list. Mario Golf: World Tour received positive reviews, many courses, characters, DLC, and online play, but could not capitalize on the large player base on the 3DS. Perhaps golf is too niche of a sport to do well for video games, but Mario Golf is very deserving of the Mario name and it shows in the gameplay. Fans of golf or those looking for a fun, relaxing title, look no further than Mario Golf.
