Enter the Dying West in Guns of Eschaton
Publisher 4Divinity and developer Eschatology Entertainment have officially unveiled Guns of Eschaton, a new first-person shooter that blends intense Souls-like gameplay with a dark, mystical Western setting. The game also carries special significance as the final original universe envisioned by the late Viktor Antonov, the legendary art director whose work helped shape iconic games such as Half-Life 2 and Dishonored.
Set in an alternate version of nineteenth-century America, Guns of Eschaton transforms the familiar Old West into a haunting apocalyptic landscape inspired by historical figures and mythical legends. Players will travel across a dying nation, making their way from the American West to the East Coast. All while facing relentless enemies where every encounter can quickly turn deadly.
Unlike traditional shooters that encourage spraying bullets, Guns of Eschaton focuses on careful planning and survival. Ammunition is limited, making every shot a meaningful decision. Players must rely on specialized ammo types, perfectly timed parries, and precise dashes. There is also a Codex system, which reveals enemy weaknesses through Sequence Points. Learning how enemies behave and exploiting those weaknesses will be just as important as having good aim.
Studio Head Fuad Kuliev described the announcement as a tribute to Viktor Antonov’s creative legacy. He shared that the team worked closely with Antonov throughout the early stages of development, helping turn his ideas and themes into the unique world players will experience. According to Kuliev, the project reflects a collaborative effort to honor Antonov’s vision while delivering a challenging and memorable adventure.
With its striking setting, unforgiving combat, and the creative legacy behind it, Guns of Eschaton looks like one of the most intriguing Souls-like shooters. It will be coming out on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, so make sure to keep an eye out.
