Jarred Defense Is Releasing a Steam Demo This Week

Meet the Judgy Cat in Jarred Defense

Solo developer Mikolas Zuza has announced that Jarred Defense, a challenging maze-building tower defense game, will launch its public demo on Steam on May 21, 2026. The demo arrives just ahead of Steam Next Fest, scheduled from June 15 to June 22, 2026, offering players an early look at its demanding gameplay.

Inspired by classic Flash-era tower defense titles and custom Warcraft 3 maps, Jarred Defense emphasizes strategic depth and careful planning. Players build mazes by placing towers directly in enemy paths, forcing waves through longer, more dangerous routes. Success depends on smart placement, timely upgrades, and quick adaptation when things go wrong. The game embraces difficulty, pushing players to learn through failure and steadily improve.

Towers act as both weapons and barriers, making positioning critical. A well-designed maze funnels enemies through choke points and damage zones, while poor placement can break paths and let waves escape. A watchful cat in a jar adds personality, silently judging every mistake.

Levels evolve during play, introducing hazards like melting ice, heat effects, and shifting paths. Players can send waves early for bonus rewards, complete star objectives, push into endless mode, and compete on leaderboards. The game also features branching upgrade paths, allowing players to specialize towers into roles such as sniper, fire, ice, and laser builds.

“Good classic maze-building tower defense games are hard to come by these days, so I decided to make one myself,” said Mikolas Zuza, solo developer of Jarred Defense.

Built using the Godot engine, the game will launch on PC, macOS, Linux, and Steam Deck, with a full release planned for Q3 2026. Overall, Jarred Defense aims to deliver a tough yet rewarding experience for strategy fans.
