Meet the Heroes of the Seven Islands
Heroes of the Seven Islands has officially launched today, bringing players into a whimsical yet demanding hand-drawn world. Developed by solo creator Raphaël Huchet, this adventure is both a heartfelt homage to classic 90s role-playing games and a playful nod to Franco-Belgian comics.
The project began two years ago and has grown into a fully realized fairy tale journey, complete with 267 hand-drawn backgrounds and 789 sprites, all crafted on hundreds of sheets of paper. Every scene carries the personal touch of Huchet’s illustrations, blending a sense of comfort with lighthearted humor. To enrich the world further, composers Eric Shumaker, iorekb, and Castlewalker contributed 36 original tracks, giving the game a varied and atmospheric soundtrack.
Heroes of the Seven Islands offers a mix of point-and-click exploration and a turn-based combat system designed to stay quick and engaging. Players are free to follow the main quest or wander across its expansive map, taking on side stories while uncovering the seven unique biomes. Villages, cities, forests, caves, and dungeons all await discovery, with the first playthrough expected to last between seven and twelve hours. Its style and mechanics are heavily influenced by the Might and Magic series, while embracing a more humorous and quirky presentation.
The game is now available on Steam, priced at $11.99 USD with a 15% launch discount for the first two weeks. A free demo is also accessible, giving players a chance to explore the first two islands before diving into the full adventure.
Heroes of the Seven Islands stands as a lovingly crafted journey, balancing nostalgia with originality in a world brimming with charm.
