Redfall’s Co-Op Campaign Will Only Progress for the Host Player
Redfall is a co-op shooter that is pretty much like Back 4 Blood or Left 4 Dead. It is Arkane’s take on games that pit players against nasty hordes of vampires.
The game has a single player mode for those who want to play solo. However, Redfall’s focus is ganging up against the nasty hordes of monsters with friends. Unfortunately, there seems to be a wrinkle when it comes to how players progress through the game.
It has come to light that only the players who host the campaign will end up progressing. “Whoever hosts the session, their progress is persistent for them,” Arkane’s Harvey Smith revealed during an interview. “But for other people, it is not.”
This indicates that Redfall players who are not hosting the co-op session will not be able to clear off any levels on their own check list. This is unfortunate considering that the game has a specific mission structure that has levels taking place in a certain order that tells the game’s overall story. Even if they complete a level with their friends, they will have to beat it again in their own campaign either as a single player or as the session’s host.
According to Arkane, they decided to implement this system due to the fact that jumping around the missions outside of their intended order may be a problem later on. “The story would be very confusing if you got to mission eight and it said ‘skip this one because you have already done it,’” Smith added.
Players can join the campaign’s host in any chosen level regardless of their own progress. However, this will not let them skip over the important story beats. This is especially when they do decide to play that particular stage themselves.
