Perfect Dark Team Loses Its Game Director
The Perfect Dark team may have lost its Game Director. It would seem that Dan Neuburger decided to leave California-based The Initiative. He worked for the studio for the past three years and eight months.
Neuburger’s LinkedIn profile shows that the former Perfect Dark dev is currently looking for employment elsewhere. He worked at The Initiative for almost four years. He was also previously the Game Director for Crystal Dynamics and worked on the popular Tomb Raider series. These two studios are working together for Perfect Dark as well.
Devs announced the game back in December of 2020. Since then, however, the only big news about the reboot is that Crystal Dynamics was called to join the team.
“The teams could not pass up a chance to work together,” The Initiative wrote last year. “We are partnering with Crystal Dynamics, the world-class team behind character-driven games such as Tomb Raider, to bring this first-person spy thriller to a new generation.”
Neuburger’s departure from the Perfect Dark team is actually the second major key staff exit in the past year. Last February, the studio lost Design Director Drew Murray. He left The Initiative so he could rejoin his previous studio Insomniac Games. He cited personal reasons as the reason behind his departure.
Murray and Neuburger leave behind a group of veteran devs. The Initiative is led by Darrell Gallagher who used to be Activision’s development boss and Head of Crystal Dynamics.
Perfect Dark is “still early in development.” However, devs are already very much excited to deliver what they have envisioned for the game.
Neuburger did not provide any further details on what he plans to do next following his exit from the studio. Moreover, The Initiative also has not given any information regarding his replacement.
