It Lives!
Singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes has joined the Life is Strange TV show as an executive producer and will be working on the soundtrack. This is certainly an interesting addition, but at least it means the soundtrack should at least be decent.
The production company Anonymous Content has also recently joined the project. They have worked on True Detective and Mr. Robot. Already working on the project are Legendary Television and dj2 Entertainment, and they are also currently working on the Tomb Raider anime series for Netflix.
Really, the news here is that the Life is Strange TV show is still alive. It was first announced back in 2016 and basically went radio silent since then. It is nice to know that some of the companies behind this show are already working on a video game show with the Tomb Raider anime.
Of all the games to make a TV show out of, I actually think Life is Strange is a perfect fit. Besides already being an episodic game, its teen drama and supernatural elements make for perfect TV fodder. Having time to explore the day-to-day life of kids will make the supernatural elements stand out, and I could easily see this being an entertaining show if it is done correctly. Of course, video game adaptations don’t have a great history of being done correctly.
I’m not going to write this off. I think TV shows work best for video games in general since games are often 20+ hours long, and it just isn’t easy to condense that down into a movie. A TV show offers far more time to flesh everything out and build up the world and characters. I really think this is the way to go for video game adaptations.
