Some Good News to Go With the Bad News
Survival horror RPG Chernobylite is already receiving critical acclaim based on its PC release, but console gamers will have to wait a little longer to experience the horror of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. Publisher All in! Games and development studio The Farm 51 have announced that Chernobylite’s console release will be delayed for a while longer.
This disappointing news is balanced out by some good news in the form of a new accolades trailer celebrating Chernobylite’s warm reception. The video is just under two minutes long and plunges you straight into the unsettling atmosphere of the game.
Fortunately, fans of Chernobylite won’t have to wait too long for it to arrive on console–the game will be available next month. Xbox and PlayStation owners will be able to get their hands on the title on September 28th.
The trailer showcases a good deal of gameplay footage, including combat, interactions with NPCs, and lots of slow pans across the game’s environment. Chernobylite’s setting was based off of in-depth scans of the real-life Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, so if something about those deeply-forested environments strikes you as strangely off-putting, there’s a reason for it.
The video does an excellent job of building up a tense and often alarming atmosphere, despite not showing off too many monsters or even traditionally horrific imagery. Instead, it focuses on shots of desolate environments, vibrant forests, and heavily-armed figures who could be either friend or foe, all while desperate, frightened, and sometimes furious characters share pieces of their stories.
“We at All in! Games pride ourselves in setting high standards for all our releases and are pleased with the games that we have published this year. Incidentally, due to some unforeseen issues with the console build, we decided to slightly delay the launch of Chernobylite until it gets resolved,” said Piotr Żygadło, CEO at All in! Games.
Chernobylite is currently available on PC. Digital and physical PS4 editions and digital Xbox One editions will launch on September 28th, 2021. PS5 and Xbox Series S|X editions will arrive at a later point.
