Make Friends With Spirits and Help Them Move On
There have been a lot of games over the years that tackle the subject of death and dying, but some take a softer and sweeter approach than others. Spiritfarer, the critically acclaimed cozy management game where you play as a cute psychopomp–that’s a fancy word for grim reaper–who must ferry the spirits of the dead to their destinations.
And speaking of destinations, Spiritfarer is sailing to new territory in the form of its first-ever physical editions. The game now has physical releases available for PS4 and Nintendo Switch, so fans with a hankering for physical copies are invited to check that out here.
Spiritfarer tells the story of Stella, a woman who wakes up in a boat and is told that she’s been chosen to take over the job of Charon, the ferryman of the dead from Greek mythology. Players must gather resources, traverse magical environments, and build nice places for the spirits to dwell.
You’ll also sail around the world, make friends with your passengers, and help them get ready to move on through the Everdoor and into the afterlife. The result is a calm and peaceful adventure that invites both the characters and the players to come to terms with the inevitability of death–and celebrate life while it lasts.
The physical edition of Spiritfarer comes from iam8bit and Thunder Lotus Games, with distribution by Skybound Games. It contains a 96-page digital art book, six collectible postcards and sticker stamp sets highlighting exotic locations from the game, and a digital download of the game’s soundtrack composed by Max LL on top of the game.
There’s also a 2xLP vinyl soundtrack for Spiritfarer and a Collector’s Edition in production, both of which will be exclusively available on iam8bit.com. We’ll share more information about them when we’re able.
Spiritfarer is now available on PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch.
