These Delays Are Out of Control!
Who knew that next gen upgrades would be such a hassle? Probably everybody, but it’s a bummer nonetheless when things don’t go according to plan. Control Ultimate Edition is the latest victim of next gen upgrade delay syndrome. Crystal Dynamics’ Marvel’s Avengers has also suffered delays getting their game onto next gen consoles. Along with its successes, Control has had its moves that can be filed under “oopsies”. In order to get the next gen upgrade, players must purchase the Ultimate Edition or buy on that next gen console, regardless of whether or not they already had the regular edition and its extra content.
Earlier today, Remedy announced that the next gen upgrades for Control Ultimate Edition would be delayed until 2021, so you won’t be able to play it on Xbox Series X or PS5 this year. The development team says they need some more time to get the best quality of experience out of the game it can, which is entirely understandable. It just means that anyone saving the game for a next gen experience will have to wait at least a couple of months. There is no word on when the rescheduled release date will be.
In other Control Ultimate Edition news, it can be played on Nintendo Switch after its surprise release. The catch is that it is a cloud game, meaning Nintendo Switch owners will have to maintain a stable internet connection to play it AKA no on-the-go Control. Control is available now on PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch, and will be available on Xbox Series X and PS5 in 2021.
