Phil Spencer Wants Game Pass on iPhone
During a recent interview, Phil Spencer claimed that Microsoft is still trying to get Project xCloud and Game Pass onto iOS. Microsoft has run into similar issues to Epic Games in trying to get Project xCloud on the platform, but Phil Spencer remains dedicated to getting the subscription cloud gaming service onto iOS. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate brings the Game Pass library to Xbox and PC, and Android devices through the recently released Project xCloud for a base subscription rate of $15 per month.
“We’re committed to bringing Game Pass to all mobile phones out there, including Apple phones,” said Phil Spencer. “We’ll continue the conversations and I’m sure we’ll be able to get to some resolution.” Apple has been blocking Microsoft in their attempts to get more than one Game Pass title on iOS through Game Pass, but they recently reduced some restrictions. Apple is reluctant to allow Game Pass and Project xCloud on the service likely due to their push for Apple Arcade and the potential obsoletion it could be driven to when Game Pass inevitably releases on iOS.
Considering Apple’s review process for the App Store, it’s likely that Xbox fans on iOS will have to wait a while for all of the Game Pass titles to get cleared by the tech giant. Microsoft is apparently working on a resolution with Apple, but it’s another way that the platform is resistant to change as suggested by Epic Games when they accused them of monopolistic practices. While Project xCloud, Game Pass, and the Epic Games Store may not be on iOS anytime soon, if the companies remain dedicated enough, it’s a matter of when not if.
