Making Moves After Years of Abuse
Change is coming to Ubisoft. CEO Yves Guillemot sent an internal letter to all the employees, one that outlines the changes coming in light of some recent allegations finally going public. This comes after certain staff members faced disciplinary action for their serious transgressions.
In particular, Maxime Beland is resigning from his position as vice president of the editorial department. Tommy François has been placed on disciplinary leave, and ongoing investigations are underway regarding these (and several more) employees’ acts of sexual misconduct. The letter lays out the company’s plan going forward in greater detail, as seen below:
“Specifically, I have decided to revise the composition of the Editorial Department, transform our human resource processes, and improve the accountability of all managers on these subjects.” Guillemot stated that “To those of you who have spoken up or have supported colleagues, I want to be clear: you are heard, and you are helping drive necessary change within the company.” One of the measures to be implemented is the appointment of staff whose sole job is monitoring workplace culture. This means things like weekly sessions with employees to ensure that horrible crimes aren’t being committed, on or off company property. Hopefully these measures will work towards eliminating sexual misconduct, as opposed to just, changing the face of it.
