No More PewDiePie Videos In China
It was only a matter of time, but PewDiePie has officially been banned in China. PewDiePie became the latest target of China’s wrath after the massive YouTuber uploaded a video containing the infamous Xi Jinping = Winnie the Pooh meme. At the moment, searches for PewDiePie’s videos in China come up with zero results.
PewDiePie spoke out about the ban, stating “[w]ell boys, we did it. I’m banned from China. That’s right. After I spoke about the Hong Kong protests and showed their leader being mocked for looking like Winnie the Pooh, I got banned from China.” Looks like any Chinese fans are out of luck.
Felix Kjellberg is just the latest public figure to come under fire for speaking out (directly or otherwise) about China and Hong Kong. There’s been a series of e-sports athletes, basketball players, actors, and industry players who have come under fire for taking one side or the other in the ongoing Hong Kong protest. It seems that no person or corporate entity is too big to escape China’s attention, especially if they’re speaking against the Chinese government.
