New IPs are in Development for Activision Blizzard

After Sifting Through Activision’s Q2 Earnings Call Transcript…

As you may know, Activision Blizzard is excited to continue remastering a lot of their classic games. The success of the Crash N. Sane Trilogy, Spyro Reignited Trilogy, and Crash Team Racing is something they want to replicate as many times as they can. They do have a massive library of IPs after all. Speaking of IPs, something a little bit overlooked from Activision’s 2019 Q2 earnings call was the mention of new IPs. Obviously, an earnings call is no time for a new game announcement, so don’t expect any specific titles, but they are on Activision Blizzard’s radar.

Because of the earnings call’s nature, almost everything was on the subject of making money and expectations of money being made. By the way, Activision is still making tons of money. Nothing new there. Following the summary of Q2 2019, questions were taken from various investors. Most of the questions were asking about Activision’s strategies for increasing revenue. Some asked about specific divisions like Blizzard or King and some asked about the franchises; remasters are a great way to cash in on nostalgic fans after all. There have been earlier remasters like Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD and Angry Birds Trilogy that have not been as hot as the recent ones.

Activision Blizzard (mostly Blizzard though) was noted to have “a great track record of creating new IPs.” When asked about new IPs, they said that each of the businesses (Activision, Blizzard, King) had new IPs in development. That means titles that are not Candy Crush, Diablo, or Call of Duty. And they really do have a good track record for new titles. Sekiro and Overwatch, two original games to come out in the last three years are massively successful. Unfortunately we should not expect to see a new IP anytime soon.
