Fortnite Ramping Up to Season 5 With New Antics

Everyone’s Favorite Battle Royale is Puzzling Players Again With Super-villains and Rockets

Season 3 of Fortnite boggled the minds of players for weeks after a comet appeared in the sky and took its sweet time plummeting into the game’s map, permanently altering its structure and implementing a brand new hop-rock consumable that gave players moon-boot-like jumping abilities. Almost immediately, players began to stumble across peculiar new locations and hints that may be pointing toward a new event that will kick off Season 5.

Seeing as the theme of Fortnite’s Season 4 is Superheros, it makes sense that villains would come along for the ride. When Season 3’s infamous meteor dropped, so did a bunch of map changes, including the addition of a Superhero base, a handful of mysterious bunkers, and most pertinent to the topic at hand, a Supervillain base. The lair looks like a cartoonish skull from the outside, and is home to a large missile that players have theorized will trigger season 5, much like last season’s meteor. Over the past weekend, people started noticing that an image in the shape of the skull lair has begun to appear on televisions across the map, just like near the end of Season 3.

It’s also been noted that a hologram has popped up in the lair housing the rocket, and looks an awful lot like the one being used by the recently revealed Blockbuster villain in a new loading screen.

Yesterday, popular Twitter account/Fortnite dataminers/leakers TwoEpicBuddies (the very same who leaked the new Score Royale mode we reported on) recently did their thing and revealed that the rocket is set to “start” on Tuesday (tweet below has been corrected by them since) at 2pm CEST/12pm EDT/9am PDT.

Also, the televisions on the recently released Switch version of the game show a countdown instead of the skull lair image.

Sufficient to say, Epic really knows how to keep players interested in their free-to-play Battle Royale shooter. I guess we’ll find out around this time tomorrow what’s actually going on with the rocket (or not). Let us know what you think is going to happen with the rocket in the comments below, and keep it locked to COGconnected for the latest Fortnite news as it builds up including the recent cross-play debacle!
