Metal Gear Survive Event Begins April 10th on PC and Consoles
Konami has announced a Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater-inspired co-op event for Metal Gear Survive next week. The event, called ‘The Encounter 1964’, will kickstart on April 10th on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
According to Konami, the event will run for two weeks and will feature plenty of classic MGS3 items including “items such as the iconic Crocodile Cap, camo fatigues worn by Naked Snake, and EVA’s jumpsuit can be added to the user’s avatar.” Also included is a new cassette tape that details MGS3’s end-game boss, the Shagohod. Players will earn Battle Points in order to unlock the new items and gear.
The is the first timed event Konami has launched for Metal Gear Survive since its release in February. The game received a rather lukewarm response from players and the press and, as such, has seen its player base begin to dwindle. Having a co-op event based on Snake’s classic 2004 PS2 game will certainly attract people to keep playing, but for exactly how long is anyone’s guess.
Here’s what we said about the game in our launch review:
“If you’re a fan of games like Rust and DayZ, you may well find that you love the hell out of Metal Gear Survive. It has lots of meters and things to craft, and an interesting navigation system that challenges the player. It also has a crushing amount of repetition, the slimiest of microtransactions, and it whiffs on anything but tangential connection to the main Metal Gear franchise. This is not Metal Gear Solid 6. If you can accept that fact with an open mind, you may actually like what you find.”Â
